Today's question is: “What’s the worst ‘best’ book you’ve ever read — the one everyone says is so great, but you can’t figure out why?”
This book only encompasses the amount of time since I have been blogging. Before that time I didn't really pay much attention to what everyone else said about books-If I wanted to read it, I did or vice versa. So I am going to have to say - The House on Mango Street by Hannah Cisneros. I know - it won the American Book Awards and I had some different bloggers ask me why I didn't like it. . . I think it is because it was a series of vignettes/short stories - and I really don't like this format. I read it for an online challenge - and am glad I went outside by comfort zone - but didn't increase my lack of love for short stories. You can go here to see my review.
I haven't had much luck with short stories either. Although, I did enjoy Jhumpa Lahiri's recent volume.
ReplyDeleteAnd don't get me started on Book Awards lists. I have the worst luck with those. Especially the Booker Prize books.
I have heard of it but never read it.

I've never been able to get into short stories either. Several of my favorite authors have collections of short stories but i can't seem to get into them.
ReplyDeleteI didn't like that book either. I was actually disappointed when I read it, since all the reviews were great. I didn't like how she did the vinaigrette style either. I have read books since then that have done that style of writing very well.
ReplyDeleteI only like short stories that are special. Very special...
ReplyDeleteMy answer this week is rather short...
I'm not much of a fan of short stories. In fact Delicate edible Birds should have been on my post but I went with the book I really couldn't stand. My BTT is here
ReplyDeleteI hadnt heard of that one before.
