Lily and Tom always repeated that part of the story, when they told it, time after time -- Can you imagine it? A bright magenta river?  Their friends would comment on the tablecloth, and Lily and Tom would talk about finding it in Lyon, which was really a story about how they found each other, how they committed to each other, and how they shared a love that sustained them. Never, ever, talk about your sex life right before or after having sex. Before is way too stressful, especially if one of the partners is trying to share from the heart and the other one has the obvious air of: "Yeah, yeah, yeah, blah, blah, blah. Less talk and more action please." (The Marriage Project by Kathi Lipp, p56)

"Now that things have settled down to a dull roar, I'm going to take a batch of scones, a jar of fig jam, and a big thermos of lemonade over to the fellows who are working on the Journey's End Church." Even when Royboy had joined them on several occasions, endlessly mimicking with his own sometimes incoherent version of speech or sitting at Reginald's feet and fussing with his shoe ties or even the luncheon fiasco, never once had Reginald complained of Royboy's presence. Perhaps he would welcome Royboy -- or tolerate him, at least. (p56 The Oak Leaves by Maureen Lang)

Aurelia began to howl and Flying Braid called for a second midwife, and this one poked at Aurelia's arms and legs with a sharp stick, and soon there were other women in the tepee, and everyone was singing Flying Braid's song, and Aurelia imagined herself standing with the women, and although she didn't know the language of the song, she began to sing, too, and the singing seemed to take her away from the pain so that she barely felt the first midwife prodding her with her knees and blowing on her neck, and couldn't tell if the second midwife was jabbing her with a stick now or pummeling her around the head, or if their arms were at her sides or being yanked out of their sockets.
