Perfectly Dateless by Kristin Billerbeck (Book Review)

Title: Perfectly Dateless
Author: Kristin Billerbeck
Publisher: Revell

My synopsis/thoughts: Daisy Crispin was the perfect daughter - always did what her parents wanted - got good grades - didn't lie - wore the clothes her mom made for her - strong faith in God with good Christian values - But she felt like her highschool years were hum drum.  Having a date for prom would change all that.  She would get the perfect prom photo and then be able to go on to college with a picture to prove that she had been somebody.  Problem was - no one in her high school really knew who she was.

She started a Prom Journal that listed her top 5 choices of dates and what she was going to do to get one of them to go to prom with her.  Even though Chase Doogle was listed as #5, he was pretty much the one she was aiming for.  They had known each other since Kindergarten and she finally admitted that she had had a crush on him all that time.

Max Diaz entered the picture at this time.  He introduced himself to Daisy after her parents put a skit on at her school and really embarrased her. He was from Argentina and Daisy had to admit he was pretty cute.  But - she was still focused on Chase.

Her best friend Claire had been living with a secret.  Her parents weren't on vacation in Hawaii - they were separated - with her mom in Hawaii and her dad teaching on the East Coast.  The housekeeper was supposed to be keeping an eye on her, but she had quit - so Claire was on her own.  She talked Daisy into having the party of the year - one that everyone would remember them for.  Of course, since they went to a Christian high school there would be no alcohol or drugs - right?

I really enjoyed reading this book. It was fun for me to think back to high school as Daisy reminded me a lot of myself (except for the homemade clothes).  Having gone to a small midwestern high school though, we didn't really have the cliques that they seemed to have even in this Christian school, though. I liked that it portrayed a Christian girl with the same longings as any other kid.  It is hard not to fit in even if your faith is strong.  I can't wait to share this book with my teenage daughters.

Perfectly Dateless by Kristin Billerbeck (blog tour 7/11 - 7/18)

Blog tour July 11-18

The prom countdown has begun.

Daisy Crispin has 196 days to find the right date for the prom. There's only one problem--her parents won't let her date or even talk to a guy on the phone. Oh, and she's totally invisible at school, wears lame homemade clothes, and possesses no social skills. Okay, so maybe there's more than one problem.

Can she talk her parents into letting her go to the prom? Or will they succeed at their obvious attempts to completely ruin her life?

Perfectly Dateless is hilarious, shocking, and totally real. You'll fall in love with Daisy's sharp wit and resourcefulness as she navigates the world of boys, fashion, family, and friendship.

Kristin Billerbeck is the bestselling, award-winning author of several novels, including What a Girl Wants.
