I actually was one in San Diego at a car repo lot - it could get pretty scary at night coming in and out of the building - I was doing it for extra money, and didn't do it for long. . . It was cool to have the security guard uniform though!

Thanks for this review. I'm always on the lookout for the gripping murder mystery/thriller. And an added plus is that the main character is struggling with depression, I rather enjoy reading about personal, internal struggles.
I've never been a night watchman. Sounds like an excellent setting for a scary book though!

I loved MJ's answer! I raised 4 kids, 3 sons and 1 daughter, so I agree! Raising teens definitely makes you a night watchman! I have never been an official night watchman but one of my first jobs in college was working in a movie theatre. Twice a week, it was my turn to close the theatre so I had to watch out for everything happening in the theatre late at night and then close up.

I've never been a night watchman or security guard but while at Yale I worked as student security one Thanksgiving break. It wasn't that bad - we had to walk students all over campus but we carried radios and could call in if things seemed dangerous. New Haven was a scary place then, and I'm a 5'2" Asian woman and was quite skinny at the time, so many of the people I'd escort seemed a bit embarrassed to have me walking them home.

I've never been a watchman! OMG that would be scary. I don't like parking lots and empty buidings, especially at night.
Nope, never been a security guard or watchman. However I was on security patrol in the fifth grade! Does that count? For a period, I was assigned to "defending" the water fountain, and it was my job to prevent any kids from using the water fountain on their way to their bus. (I guess they didn't want kids peeing their pants on the bus.) I almost got into knockdown fights a few times preventing kids from drinking from that fountain!

No can't ever say that I was a security guard. I was in the Navy and had to do security watches from time to time, but that really was not a scary situation.

Yes! I was a security guard at a computer chip processing plant on weekends one summer when I was in college. Even had the awesome clip-on tie! It was a mindless and boring job except for the 2 ocassions when I got to reset the sprinkler system. WOW!

I've never been a night watchman. I can't phantom having that kind of responsibility on your shoulders, not to mention with my deafness I would make a lousy one.
Speaking of night watchmen the creepiest movie I've watched about one recently would be "Mirrors" with Keifer Sutherland. That would convince anyone to pass up on that particuliar job.
