Reading Slump

I am in a reading slump right now. I am in the middle of 3 books - The Four Corners of the Sky, Thimble Summer, and Pleasure Unbound (well, this one I am almost done) and I seem to be avoiding reading. I have been fighting a semi-headache for a couple of days - Tylenol seems to be keeping it at bay - but that isn't helping. I feel like I am doing everything I can to avoid reading (i.e. - all the changes on my blog...) Any suggestions on how to get out of this??

I'm sorry to hear about your headache; and I don't know what to suggest to get you out of your slump. (Sometimes, you just need to take a break.) However, I've been considering reading THIMBLE SUMMER, so I'm curious to read anything you have to say about it! (But that's not pressure -- it's encouragement!)

Maybe you could try a light, quick read or a YA book. I hope your headache goes away - I'm sure that's not helping.

Slump and headache not a good mix. First, rest and get rid of the headache. Then, if I am still in a slump, read the trashy novel first. **smile** That always helps!

If it's the headache then you'll just have to wait until it goes. I know that sounds terrible but I get the most terrible migraines and simply can't read when that happens. However, it sounds more like you're bored. When I get bored with reading it's because I've been reading too much of the same type of stuff for awhile. I have to break out and find something COMPLETELY different. I've always been huge fantasy and sci-fi fan but every once in a while I get bored with it and have to read something from historical fiction or a serious general fiction book (like Wally Lamb or Alice Walker, a couple of my faves). Another good one is Jodi Picoult. Not sure what genre you prefer but maybe trying something outside of what you normally read.

Hi Kristi, this happens to me sometimes too. I suggest you just go with it. I usually try just listening to audio books when that happens and switch genres. Otherwise just give yourself a few days to get over the headache and then try again.

I thought my slump was caused by being sick, I was dragging through Follow Me. I finally said "to heck with it" and quit on page 184. I picked up a good mystery, followed by a fun chick lit, and then a good suspense. It wasn't me after all! I just didn't like the book.

Maybe you should just stop reading all of them for a while, and pick up something you're dying to read that you've put off because you felt like you really should read the others first.

I'll bet you'll find out that it's not you, it's just that you're not that into the books you're reading!

Sorry world...I know everyone loves Follow Me, but nope....not for me!! I'm not even gonna try to finish it! (Advil....lots of advil....;o)

Me too - I've got like 5 books started - nothing is grabbing me, but it's not the books at fault - it's me in a slump! Slumps just happen I guess. Maybe we need a trip to Paris or something as a change of scenery?

I am in a slump, too! I've had no time to read because I've had so much to do for work! And I've got a headache as well! Grrr...

I'm sorry to hear about your headache. I know how awful they are and I hope you feel better soon :)

I wish I had a suggestion for your reading slump, but I'm in one too. There were two days earlier this week that I didn't complete anything - so my books read this week stands at 1 ... which is awful for me. I hope your slump ends soon, I always love reading your new reviews.

Sorry about your headaches Kristi. I hope that improves soon! As for the reading slump, we all go through them. If your like me I just take a break for a few days. Buy the end of my break I feel the need to read again.

The only other thig I can suggest is that if you don't really care for the books you are reading go on to something else. It may just be a need for a change of pace.

BTW, I forgot to mention that I love the new needle point header!

I totally understand as I was in the same situation last week. You just need to find a book to get you back in the game (after your headaches are gone of course!). I am reading Child 44 by Tom Rob Smith and after a week of not picking anything up - I can't put this down!!!

I hope you feel better!

I hope you're feeling better. As for the reading slump, maybe you just need to pick up a book you've been dying to read but haven't because of review copies. Or maybe you need a light, fluff read or even an audiobook.
