Ok fellow bloggers - I know that I have read some posts out there in the past about what you all do when you come across a book you don't particularly care for. I have come across my first book in awhile that falls in this category. My question is - if you have promised to review a book, and you discover part way in, that you really don't care for it - do you:
- Finish it and give an honest "not for me" review
- Don't finish it and give a "not for me" review through what you did read
- Don't finish it and just post a - DNF - not for me - no review

I can only tell you what I'd personally do. I do finish all books provided for review. I will rate it accordingly, however. For example, I just did a review and gave it a 5 out of 10.
I've had some I really didn't care for, but I did finish them and gave them an honest review. I've seen it done several ways, and I think you should do whatever feels right to you.
There are so many books out there that I want to read that I will not waste too much time on one I don't like. I usually give it 50 to 100 pages depending on the size of the book because some just get off to a slow or akward start and them warm up.
I have been blogging for a year and a half now and have not had a ARC that I have not finished. Luckly! I think I would say I DNF and say why, but also try to find some good points. I promise fair but honest reviews.
I'd second what Teddy said. Say you did not finish and give some positive points. And maybe you could even offer the book to one of your readers who might like the book more than you do and review it in your place?
I agree that you should do what you feel most comfortable doing. I'll do my best to finish every review copy, and I'll state that I had problems getting into the story. If I ever came across a book that I couldn't finish, I'd probably say why I couldn't finish it, but also note that since I didn't read it all the way through, that I can't provide a complete review. I've been lucky that I haven't encountered this problem yet.

I've wondered about this as well - I'd love to know what you end up doing, but I don't know what I would do.
Don't finish reading it. It probably won't get any better if you do and you would be wasting your time too. Just give a review of what you did read. thanks
Thank you to all of you who left your answers. I appreciate the different views. I think I will probably not read it anymore as it is bogging me down and I have other ARCs that are going to suffer for it! There are some positive parts to it though - just not for me. :_)
I find it a lot easier to give a DNF and critical review to a library book than an ARC, but I do my best to treat both types the same. When I have an ARC I can't finish, I explain it was a DNF, tell why, then try to either give positives or provide links to other bloggers who did like it.
So far, I've finished all the books I've read for review, even the few that I really didn't care for. However, if the writing/story was really painful to read, I'm not sure what I'd do. I don't think there's a "right" answer to this, except for you to do what feels right to you.
