Touched by a Vampire: Discovering the Hidden Messages in the Twilight Saga
by Beth Felker Jones
People around the world are enraptured with Edward and Bella's forbidden romance in the Twilight Saga, a four-book serial phenomenon written by Stephenie Meyer. The bestsellers tell the story of a regular girl's relationship with a vampire who has chosen to follow his "good" side. But the Saga isn't just another fantasy -- it's teaching girls about love, sex, and purpose. With 48 million copies in print and a succession of upcoming blockbuster films, now is the time to ask the important question: Can vampires teach us about God's plan for love?
Touched by a Vampire investigates the themes of the Twilight Saga from a Biblical perspective. Some Christian readers have praised moral principles illustrated in the story, such as premarital sexual abstinence, which align with Meyer's Mormon beliefs. But ultimately, Beth Felker Jones examines whether the story's redemptive qualities outshine its darkness.
Cautionary, thoughtful, and challenging, Touched by a Vampire is written for Twilight fans, parents, teachers, and youth workers. It includes an overview of the series for those unfamiliar with the storyline and a discussion guide for small groups. (back cover)
I have 1 copy of this book to giveaway to a lucky winner. All you have to do is tell me whether or not you saw the first Twilight movie and if you were planning on going to New Moon. (Must do this to enter). Please leave an email address in comment - open to U.S. only - one entry per person - giveaway ends November 12, 11:59pm CST.
My middle daughter talked me into going with her to the first Twilight movie - she had already seen it once - and then I talked her into going to it again with me. We then bought the video and loaned it to my sister who has since watched it too many times to count. She is also on the fourth book of the series and admitted to me that she probably hasn't read a complete book in 20 years! So - we are planning a girls night out to see New Moon (hopefully on opening night) - with me, my sister, my two daughters and any other women we can round up!

I saw the first one on DVD because my husband was dying to see it. We'll probably wait for the DVD for New Moon too.

I plan to see the first movie and then go to the second movie with a dear friend. She is totally into "Twilight", and she has loaned me the whole book series to read. I would like to win this book to give to her as a surprise!

My friend is a 7th grade english teacher and got me hooked on the series last year. I went to opening night of the movie Twilight and plan to do the same for New Moon. The energy in that movie theatre was amazing! So much excitement and enthusiasm!

I was hesitant to let me pre-teen daughter even read the Twilight series but eventually we both read teh series and then went to see the movies together. We are looking forward to the release of New Moon. It's been a good bonding time for the two of us. I would really enjoy reading this book. THanks for the chance to win.

I've not seen Twilight and I've heard mixed reviews about New Moon. So I'm not sure if I'll see it or not.

It sounds a fascinating book. I read Twilight before watching the movie, which we rented later on DVD. We'll probably wait and rent New Moon later, but I've already read that too. Need to move on and read the next.
Can you believe I haven't seen the Twilight movie...

I knew nothing about Twilight until I saw the red carpet premiere in Los Angeles and took some pictures. I saw the movie two weeks later. The premiere was so crazy last year that I think I'll pass on that, but I'll definitely watch the movie again!

Yes and Yes. :0) I saw Twilight twice in the theater and bought the DVD as soon as it came out. I plan on doing the same with New Moon. I actually think it's going to be better than Twilight. Can't wait!
Thanks!

I have not seen Twilight yet, but probably will watch it during holidays when my grown kids are visiting. That is when I catch up on movies, when I have others to watch them with. I may go see New Moon when it comes out.
