Win The Crazy School by Cornelia Read

The Crazy School
by Cornelia Read

From the acclaimed author of A FIELD OF DARKNESS comes another compelling novel featuring the acerbic and memorable voice of ex-debutante Madeline Dare. Madeline Dare has finally escaped rust-belt
Syracuse, New York, for the lush Berkshire Mountains in Massachusetts. After her husband's job offer falls through, Maddie signs on as a teacher at the Santangelo Academy, a boarding school for disturbed teenagers. Behind the academy's ornate gates, she discovers a disturbing realm where students and teachers alike must submit to the founder's bizarre therapeutic regimen. From day one, Maddie feels uneasy about smooth-talking Dr. Santangelo but when she questions his methods, she's appalled to find that her fellow teachers would rather turn on each other than stand up for themselves, much less protect the students in their care. A chilling event confirms Maddie's worst suspicions, then hints at an even darker secret history, one that twines through the academy's very heart. Cut off from the outside world, Maddie must join forces with a small band of the school's most violently rebellious students-kids whose troubled grip on reality may well prove to be her only chance of salvation. The memory that instantly came to mind for me is going to my locker and hearing over the loud speaker that president Kennedy had been shot.

Please enter me in the drawing, this sounds like a really good read.

I remember loads from highschool. My fondest memories would be Hallowe'en '94, when I went to my senior hallowe'en dance in my football uniform. Only chick there in uniform, and zombified! My friends loved it, and it cost next to nothing. :-)

Yes I am a girl, and played football.

I absolutely hated high school, except for art classes. We had fun in that room situated in the upstairs corner of the building. We were all kind of "different" from the mainstream students who formed cliques and looked down on others who didn't fit in with them. We often found subtle ways to confound them. For example, outside the art room, there was an air vent that went up to the roof. We would stand there and look up just to see how many people would look when they walked by to see what we found so interesting. Seems strange now, but it gave us a lot of laughs at the time.

My most memorable moment in high school came in 12th Grade Biology course when I vomited on the teacher's desk. Not a moment I like to recall.

One of my clearest memories of high school was getting a locker that was too high for me to reach and having to ask the person next to me to put my books in it and get them back out every day -for a shy freshman, that was pretty harrowing.

I remember a lot of things about high school, but this memory was triggered reading Kaye's memory up there...

I remember September 11, 2001, which was during my school's homecoming week my junior year. Since I attended a Catholic school, we had Mass every so often, right at the beginning of the school day. Heading into Mass, I remember people talking about a plane hitting the WTC, but they didn't make it sound like it was that big of a deal.

After Mass, however, we all found out what had happened. I remember watching as the second tower fell with the rest of my history class. Every class period for the rest of the day, teachers cancelled regular activities to watch the news. People were stunned. I don't think I had ever heard my school of 1,200 as quiet as it was that day.

Thanks for the giveaway!

I was really active in high school by being a class officer and playing on the girls' tennis team. I never had a date until graduation night and never got asked to go to prom. Being the valedictorian was not too much fun when all of the boys were afraid to ask me out.
